The long-haired midfielder, known as the 'Express Train' because of his extreame speed, first came to the attention of teams outside of he Czech Republic during Slavia Prague's run to the semi-finals of the UEFA cup in 1996.
He is known for his mazy and eluding runs up the field, which he clearly
demonstrated during the European Championships in 1996 when he scored the
best goal of the tornament. It was against Portugal in the second half
when Poborsky received the ball just before the halfway line and proceeded
on one of his dazziling runs, weaving in and out of Portugals
hapless defence. Once getting past four mezmorized defenders he spotted
the goalkeeper slightly of his line, so he stopped at the edge of the penalty
area produced a spectacular chip which floated over the scrambling keeper
and landed in the back of the net and sent the Czechs into the semi-finals
